Dog Days of Summer

Well it is now the middle of August, and I am waiting for the weather to cool down a bit, THEN I will be heading to Eastern Oregon to Glass Buttes. That is the Obsidian capital of the world. For those who have never been there, it is set aside for rockhounds, and Flint Knappers by the BLM. It is acres and acres of Obsidian laying all over the ground, or you can dig a hole and find more. There are so many varieties there, a few are Rainbow, Fire, Flame Mahogany, Pumpkin, Midnight Lace, Leopard Skin, Aurora, and so many more. It is free for the taking. You are allowed to collect 250 pounds per vehicle.
Has anyone out there ever been there? If so share your experiences with me.
Now let's hope the weather cools down soon, (kinda miserable in 100 degree heat with no shade for 60 miles) Then it will be time to head over the hills. Maybe we will meet up there some day.
TTYS, KOR
Dan

Dan - if you come across any of the red obsidian - drop a line please. I have some friends in Australia that are looking for some rough - I am sure they could give you something great in trade. I have some beautiful sircon and chrysoprase from them!

Thanks for the information about the obsidian fields. It sounds like a great place to go.
